What CPU Will Fit My Motherboard ? Part 1
Are you on a budget, but want to upgrade your company’s computer to give it a significant performance boost for a few more years?
If you are confused about this, I suggest you try simply upgrading your CPU without upgrading the rest of your computer’s chips.
After all, the case, keyboard, and CD-ROM drive haven’t changed much in the last few years.
Unfortunately, motherboard technology advances at a rate similar to that of the CPU and your motherboard may not be compatible with the new chips.
In this article I will teach you a simple way to quickly determine which CPU is right for your motherboard so that you can achieve your desired goals with minimal cost.
7 steps to check CPU and motherboard compatibility
The best way to determine which CPUs will work is to check the specifications of your motherboard, but there are four potential areas of incompatibility.
1.Manufacturer Compatibility
There are two major CPU manufacturers of desktop chips on the market today – Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.
Check the manufacturer’s website when searching for a CPU that is compatible with your motherboard. It will have which socket products are consistent with other products.
Take AMD CPUs for example : If you visit AMD’s support page, you can find out which processors work in which sockets on their motherboards by looking at the datasheets that come with each processor model for more specific information on what features and power consumption it has.
