What CPU Will Fit My Motherboard ? Part 2
2. Memory Compatibility Different processors require different types of memory. Older computers usually use double data rate 2 memory, while DDR3 is more popular in newer computers. CPUs are often optimized to work with one type of memory or another, and you can’t mix them on the motherboard because they require completely different sockets. Also, even within the same family, RAM modules usually get faster and your old RAM may not keep up with the new CPU. For example, if I want to upgrade a CPU with a DDR2 socket and an 8GB DDR4 RAM module on my motherboard, I need to make sure which processor has no problem running below the speed timed in the default configuration. 3. Slot/Slot Compatibility It’ s important to consider which slot the connector fits into in determining which CPU to purchase for your motherboard. Furthermore, it is a wise question to ask yourself what size processor you want. If you have a NIC module connected to a PCI-E x1 slot, it will not fit, as it will not ...
